Look for the stickers
Melbourne has an excellent program BYO containers , (formally called trashless takeout) If you see this sticker on the front of stores, that means they encourage you to bring your own containers! This means they encourage you to bring your own containers! This 臉fced challenges when stores haven't been all that accommodating.
We didn't encounter it the last time we were in Melbourne, but if you are, be sure to check out the Zero Waste Festival by Zero Waste Victoria , a NPO thats mission is to reduce waste and advocate for systematic schanges.
Must Visits
CERES Community Environment Park
CERES is an environmental education centre, community garden, urban farm and social enterprise hub spread across four locations, linked by the Merri and Darebin Creeks on Wurundjeri Country, Naarm (Melbourne).
What an awesome place! 100% must visit for anyone interested in sustainability. They offer a grocery store, cafe, educatoinal hubs, a truly inspiring place to be!
The CERES Merri Café serves wholesome, seasonal meals made from produce grown right on-site or sourced locally. They also don't use single-use for dining in or takeout! Another gold nugget is their map of produients, 錯誤.
Corner Roberts & Stewart Streets, Brunswick East, VIC 3057
Into Coffee
They strive to become a Zero Waste Coffee cafe! So much effort has been put into reducing waste, as they upcycle materials from soymilk cartons, order printer paper, it's so awesome to see. They also host events, and you can attend one of their "fix it" classes.

Food options in Melbourne
If you want to support local, a great option is to visit one of Melbourne’s many fresh food / farmers markets, where you can enjoy quality coffee, delicious small vendor food, and shop for fresh organic groceries.
Bonus tip: Most supermarket brands (like Woolworths or Coles) now include labels showing what percentage of their products are Australian-made (Want to sound local? Call Woolworths -> Woolies!)
Prahran Markets
It's a smaller market, but one of my favorites. Be sure to check out Market Lane Coffee, a B-Corp carbon neutral coffee store!
Queen Victoria Market
One of the more "tourist" markets, but still recommended. Victoria Market also hosts night markets, cultural events, and food festivals throughout the year. Be sure to check your calendar when visiting!
Vegi Bar + Girls & Boys Gelato
If you're looking for some fusion vegetarian / vegan food, I highly recommend this place! You can get Laksa, Pizza, and some Asian inspired dishes like Zen Bowls or Mee Goreng. Try there vegan desserts, or better yet.
Right next door is their sister restaurant Girls & Boys serving excellent vegan ice cream!

Shop Neutral in Prahran Markets
If you're in need of some body / home items, Shop Neutral is a great small store that provides locally sourced environmental friendly products. You can even BYO container for cleaning products and they'll fill it up for you!
