A leading community foundation

GrowNYC is a nonprofit organization that was established in 1970, to promote New Yorker's quality of life through environmental programs.
When we visited NYC, Unfortunately a lot of their programs had been discontinued due to funding cuts, like Stop 'N' Swap, a zero waste, buy nothing initiatives (Swap reusable items with anything you need) . Other cuts have included Food Scrap Collections and Zero Waste Schools.
But the good news is they have recently expanded into Wholesale, where you can order fresh produce from New York weekly. Highly recommend to go to any of GrowNYC's greenmarkets or community gardens.

Food options in New York
Finding options that are great for taste buds and the planet
We visited New York in March 2020, which most probably remember was right as the COVID-19 pandemic began to unfold in the U.S. With the city in lockdown, we purchased mostly from GrowNYC’s amazing Greenmarkets, and did a lot of cooking at our temporary home. If you’ve got any favorite plant-based / vegetarian / local seasonally spots in NYC, we’d love to hear them! Always looking to add more gems to our list for the next trip!
